We are not talking about the year here, but rather the comic. I bought issue 1 in 1977, and was well impressed. Dinosaurs being hunted to extinction for their meat, the wonderful Volgan invasion, with Margaret Thatcher being executed by firing squad on the steps of Westminster Abbey. Issue 2 featured Judge Dredd, and I was hooked. There was very little else in the way of science fiction media back then, and many of us devoured and obsessed over every panel they gave us. If you want a history of 2000 A.D. look elsewhere, this website is about my reaction to 2000 A.D. and the effect it still has on me.

These were the first artists I paid attention to, and I have built props and figures from 2000ad since I was a child. Plasticine was my favourite medium, undercoated and painted. I got the idea from the artists Fluck and Law, Who made their sculpted caricatures in the same way, they went on to do Spitting Image. Sadly most of my early models have not survived, but I'm using sturdier materials these days.

Such was the awe I had for 2000ad artists, that I have only recently got over myself enough to submit work to publishers. Zarjaz magazine have been particularly supportive. Look them up.
